METAL

AGED BRASS, BLACKENED BRASS, AND OIL-RUBBED BRONZE FINISHES ARE PATINATED BY HAND AT THE APPARATUS FACTORY IN BROOKLYN, NY. WAX IS APPLIED TO EACH PATINATED PIECE TO STABILIZE COLOR WHILE RETAINING A LIVING FINISH THAT WILL DEVELOP AND AGE WITH GREAT INTEGRITY WHEN CARED FOR APPROPRIATELY.

TARNISHED SILVER FINISH IS ACHIEVED BY ELECTROPLATING AND A HAND-APPLIED TINTED LACQUER. THIS LACQUERED FINISH DOES NOT AGE OVER TIME.

Porcelain shapes are made by slipcasting, where liquid clay is poured into plaster molds and finished by hand. You may see marks of the making process including bubbles suspended in the once liquid clay or seam lines where the molds once came together. Each shape is delicate yet robust, emiting a quiet glow.

We celebrate glass as a natural material that is fashioned by human touch. Glass-making processes vary depending on the piece, but all APPARATUS glass can include the marks of the making process. Mouth blown, cast and pressed glass are among our processes and pieces can include suspended bubbles, seam lines from molds and variation to precise lines that indicate how each piece was once molten liquid.
